Miang - An Economic Transformation
Miang - or known as Assam in the tea world - is a long time reliable livelihood for Thai Lua minority living in Sakat, Pua District, Nan Province. Traditionally, local northern Thai people usually ferment Miang's leaves before consuming as a snack.
Each year, Nan Province only can produce fermented Miang up to 9 million kg, the largest production in Thailand. However, Miang consumption is being outdated due to a variety of modern snacks. This challenges a million of Miang farmers in the north to find an alternative livelihood.
Students from Sakat Pattana School, during a club and activity period, realize this uncertainty and created a new solution - Miang Tea. They hope that a growing trend of tea consumption worldwide and their high quality Assam tea leaves could recover a downturn demand of Miang.

Pride of Sakat thru Senses of Miang Tea
Only the top 3 leaves are collected to ensure juicy taste of tea and full of antioxidant. The students would go into Miang farms of their parents learning how to select and gently pick Miang flowers and leaves. Miang leaves can be collected all year round while Miang flowers are only available in a rainy season for a very limited amount. Miang flowers and leaves will then be boiled, roasted, and dried to fully extend their tea senses.
Miang Tea (leaf part) tastes sweet and mellow, a bit astringent and slightly bitter, giving you a refreshing sense and make you ready for the beginning of the day.
While Dok Miang Tea (the flower part) tastes sweet and gentle, far less astringent than the leaf tea, giving you a relaxing feeling - a perfect cup for the afternoon or after bathing.
